PROJECT DESCRIPTION & BACKGROUND
Funded by the European Union’s ERASMUS+ programme, WE-EMPOWER is a transnational initiative dedicated to empowering migrant women and gender non-conforming individuals to actively participate in Europe’s civic and democratic life through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
TARGET GROUPS
Target groups of the project are migrant women, including gender non-conforming persons, people who are displaced between countries, trafficked or who have moved from a third or European country to a destination in Europe.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Empowerment and Inclusion
Empower migrant women by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to participate fully in democratic processes.
Visibility and Representation
Increase the visibility of migrant women in civic and political arenas, highlighting their contributions and encouraging others to follow their lead.
Advocacy and Policy Influence
Advocate for more inclusive policies and practices by engaging with policymakers, politicians, and institutional bodies.
Visibility and Representation
Strengthen the capacities of partner organisations and migrant women in using effective communication tools, media, and non-formal educational resources.
Community Engagement
Foster a sense of community and support among migrant women through creative and accessible methods, enhancing their ability to participate in democratic life.
Resource Development and Dissemination
Develop and disseminate a variety of educational materials and resources designed to promote the project.
PROJECT RESULTS
Toolkit
The toolkit is one of the key transnational learning products from the project. The bulk of the toolkit is focused on highlighting practices from the collective work of migrant women collaborating together or with other feminists towards more democratic participation for migrant women.
Treasure Box
The WE-EMPOWER Treasure Box is a curated collection of non-formal educational materials, communication tools, and messages. Each “treasure” within the box has been developed by our partner organisations with the aim of empowering migrant women and enhancing their inclusion in democratic processes.
Baseline Studies EU, Germany, Denmark, Italy and Serbia
The baselines studies provide an overview into the situation of migrant women in the EU and different countries, including insight into barriers, providing examples of migrant women democratic participation and concluding with recommendations.
